India, the world’s second populous country which is overwhelmed by the second wave of COVID19, is likely to hit 7 lac cases per day by 1 May if infections continue to spread at the current rate.

The daily number of cases during the last nine days – from 9 April to April 18 – reveal that cases of infection have grown at the average rate of 7.2 percent, even as some days have recorded a rise of 11.4 percent.

If the infections continue to grow at the same rate, India will record a humongous 7 lac cases of COVID19 patients on 1 May, which is eleven days from now.

As per the data projection, India is likely to record 4 lac cases per day of infections on 24 April and the per day cases are likely to cross the 5 lac mark on 27 April.

Even if the rate of infection decreases by 2 percent, the projections still show a devastating figure as 5 lac cases per day will be recorded on 1 May.

If the infection rate increases by 2 percent, the daily cases will cross a mammoth 8 lac cases on 1 May.

India has recorded 8590 COVID-19 deaths in the past seven days.

The second wave of the COVID19 infections began to emerge last month and, in recent days, has overwhelmed the health infrastructure in several Indian states including the financial hub of Maharashtra and political capital New Delhi.

New Delhi became the first state to announce the full weeklong shutdown as the second wave of infections has nearly decapitated its hospitals and healthcare infrastructure.
