Mirwaiz Alleges Weekly House Arrest Aimed at Silencing Him, Weakening Muslim Institutions
Srinagar, April 18, CNS: The Mirwaiz of Kashmir said he is being placed under “arbitrary house arrest” every Friday, calling the move an attempt to silence his voice and weaken key Muslim institutions in the Valley.
In a post on X Mirwaiz said, “Every Friday, I am put under arbitrary house arrest. Putting pressure on me not to speak up, the ban also aims to weaken the centrality of Muslim institutions of the Valley — the Jama Masjid, the office of the Mirwaiz — and cause collective grief to Muslims and all those who oppose this authoritarian and sectarian outlook.”
He also said his house detention case is currently pending in the Hon’ble High Court, where he is seeking relief. “In such times, patience remains our only strength,” he added. (CNS)
